Meet The Face Behind Sarah Grace Home Care
I’m Allan Gitau, the proud owner of Sarah Grace Home Care. I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.
First off, I’m a father of three wonderful children and a husband to my beautiful wife and partner, Catherine Ndichu. My family is the rock that I stand on. They have given me tremendous support, and I am honored to be on this journey with them.
Growing up in an underprivileged village in Kenya, I witnessed the incredible impact that nurses had on our community. My grandmother, a nurse midwife, and my mother, a compassionate nurse, dedicated their lives to caring for others and educating our community about health. However, as a young man, I never envisioned myself following in their footsteps. I migrated to the United States to study computer information systems, thinking that was my path.
But fate had other plans for me. While in college, I sought a flexible job to accommodate my studies, and that’s when a friend suggested I take a nursing assistant course. Intrigued by the idea, I enrolled in the course and discovered my true passion. The classes resonated with me more than coding and computer systems ever did. It was a turning point in my life.
Armed with my nursing assistant certificate, I embarked on my first assignment, caring for a young man named Jeff, who had suffered a devastating spinal cord injury. I was just nineteen years old, with limited experience and a mixture of emotions. However, my determination and the guidance of a wonderful mentor named Naomi helped me navigate those early days. Jeff, despite his own challenges, showed incredible patience and grace as I fumbled through my tasks.
Reflecting on that day, I was overwhelmed by the weight of responsibility. A young man like me, studying computer information systems, is now responsible for the well-being of another human being who could not care for himself. In those moments, I sought strength and guidance from my beloved mother, Sarah Waithira, who had always been a source of encouragement and wisdom. I called home to share my doubts and fears. My father handed the phone to my mother, and in her reassuring voice, she affirmed that I would make a great nurse. Her belief in me ignited a fire within, and I knew then that caring for others was my purpose.
That phone call transformed my life. I changed my major from computer science to nursing and forged a deep bond with Jeff. We shared stories of our upbringing and formed a connection that extended beyond the boundaries of caregiver and patient. Sadly, Jeff passed away two years later, but his memory remains with me always. I often look up at the stars and imagine my mom and Jeff watching over me, spurring me on to make them proud.
For the past twenty-four years, I have dedicated myself to the healthcare industry, serving as a nurse for sixteen of those years. In the last four years, I have been privileged to be a part of Sarah Grace Home Care. Our business has flourished, and our community has embraced us with open arms. The most rewarding aspect of nursing is the deep connection we forge with our patients. Despite the challenging circumstances we often encounter, we have the opportunity to play a vital role in their lives. It is a calling that fills me with immense joy and purpose.
Sarah Grace Home Care holds a special place in my heart. Our mission is to share our passion for care and improve the quality of life for those we serve. We believe in making a difference, one person, one family, and one community at a time. Our success can be attributed to our exceptional employees, who are our greatest asset. Their dedication, compassion, and commitment to our clients have been instrumental in our growth.
One of the most satisfying moments in my business journey has been witnessing the transformation of our relationships with employees, clients, families, and the community. We have become one big family, caring for each other and supporting one another through thick and thin. Knowing that we are making a positive change in our community, one client, one family, and one community at a time, is the most fulfilling part of our business.
I am grateful for the path that led me to become the owner of Sarah Grace Home Care.
